downloadThere seems to be a lot of Sci-Fi films flying around at the moment, and a lot of them seem to be about the end of the world as we know it, but I don’t tire easily of these types of film so it is all good. This movie portrays earth as still habitable, but polluted and disease ridden, so only the poor are left to endure it… anyone with any money has long ago upped and left to live on Elysium – a new world created just above the earth’s atmosphere, where the air is pure, illness does not exist and it is a general man made paradise. Elysium is seen form earth and is the envy of all the poor left to fend for themselves, and is continually being breached by desperate people trying to save themselves and their children from illness.

Our hero is Max (Matt Damon) who is an ex criminal, getting on with his life on earth. But a high dose of radiation at work gives him days to live, and suddenly he finds himself facing his criminal past as a way to buy a ticket to Elysium to rid himself of his death sentence.

Along the way he meets his true love that never happened, and discovers her daughter is in the final stages of Leukemia and promises to help her make it to Elysium too.

The film has a lot of action, and has a feel of Mad Max to it with the setting and costumes. Sharlto Copley as Kruger steals the show for his horrid character, stuck on earth but working for the government of Elysium, although no longer authorised to by the President, but illegally for the defence superior played by Jodie Foster who might I add is equally as horrible.

It is enjoyable, but not the best movie of it’s kind. But the ending does leave you a little overwhelmed.
